VIM membership campaign goes national
The Montana State University Alumni Foundation has announced plans to take its largest ever membership campaign to nationwide audiences during the Cat/Griz Brawl of the Wild football game on Saturday, Nov. 23.
Building on the statewide energy generated by the “Vim” campaign, launched across Montana during MSU’s homecoming on Oct. 5, the nationwide effort will focus on connecting the nearly 100,000 alumni living throughout the United States more closely with MSU through membership in the MSU Alumni Association. This will continue the association’s effort to grow from just over 10,000 members to 15,294 members over the next year, matching MSU record 2013-2014 student enrollment.
In a demonstration of their support for the Alumni Association and to help the campaign build additional momentum, MSU Athletics Director, Peter Fields and Head Football Coach Rob Ash both became Alumni Association members, joining MSU’s academic leadership in affirming their personal connection with Montana State.
“A strong network of energized and well-connected alumni is a vital part of any university, and Montana State has a great Alumni Association,” Fields said as he joined the organization. “They’ve been great supporters of our Bobcats and our program and we’re excited to see them continue to grow.”
“Every year, MSU alumni gather all over the country to celebrate their passionate support for Montana State football, but it’s clearly about more than that,” Ash said. “Becoming a part of the Alumni Association helps them become even more connected to MSU and their fellow alumni, making our great Bobcat community even stronger.”
The new nationwide focus for the “Vim” campaign ties to this weekend’s annual Cat/Griz football game, where MSU alumni traditionally gather at more than 100 satellite parties throughout the US to watch the game, all coordinated by MSU Alumni Foundation volunteers.
In the six weeks since the “Vim” campaign was launched during homecoming weekend, the MSU Alumni Association has seen significant early success. Already, the association’s dues-paying membership has grown to more than 11,330 from a pre-campaign level of just over 10,000 members.
“We’re thrilled at the support we’re seeing so far through our Vim campaign,” said Michael Stevenson, president and CEO of the Alumni Foundation. “Our volunteers have done great work across the great state of Montana. Now our chapter leaders and Cat/Griz coordinators are taking up the effort in places far and wide, helping all of our alumni harness their exceptional Bobcat spirit and enthusiasm together.”

The Montana State University Alumni Foundation’s Vim Campaign seeks to grow the Alumni Association’s membership to a 15,294 over this next year, equaling record student enrollment levels. That growth would represent an increase of nearly 50 percent over the just more than 10,000 dues-paying members in the Alumni Association at the start of the campaign.
The term “vim” sits at the heart of MSU’s fight song: "We’ve got the VIM, we’re here to WIN." It means: energy and enthusiasm, and that energy and enthusiasm has always been part of what defines MSU, those who have studied at the university, and those who care deeply about the place.
